Our History

The Watchmaker's Daughter, the only jewelry store in downtown York, has served
the jewelry and watch needs of York County for over sixty years.  As a third
generation jewelry store,
The Watchmaker’s Daughter, originally named Reiss
Jewelers, was opened by George Reiss  in 1945. The original location, 44 W.
Market Street above the Woolworth building, sold watches, grandfather clocks,
jewelry and small applicances. George repaired watches and jewelry, his wife Mary
kept the books, and they both served their customers cheerfully and knowledgeably
for almost fifty years. Their son Max began working at Reiss Jewelers at age 12,
and eventually went to Bowman Technical School in Lancaster, PA, also to learn the
watch making trade. In 1965 the growing business relocated to 22 N. Beaver
Street.  The family tradition continued when Max’s daughter,
Karen Staub, began at
Reiss Jewelers in 1997.  Over the years, Karen developed her own jewelry design
line,
Metta Designs. Karen is proud to continue the family tradition of quality and
integrity that began over sixty years ago with Reiss Jewelers, and to offer her own
innovations, as well as those of local artists.
We are proud members of
the following associations:

Jewelers Board of Trade
Jewelers of America
York County Chamber of
Commerce
