Vintage Sterling Silver Goldstone and Silver Beaded Necklace-

Historically, goldstone is called “aventurine glass”. It comes from the Italian term “avventurina” or “avventura” which means “accidental” or “by chance, luck or risk”. It is also known as “Dell Roba” which means “charming” in Italian. It is said to be used to impress lovers and suitors. Other than that, it is also known by many names— gold star glass, stellaria, monk’s gold, or monk stone. The final two names refer to the urban legend that the goldstone was accidentally created by Italian monks way back in the 1600s. Though, there are earlier samples of goldstone, including a smooth amulet from Iran, dating back to the 1100s – 1200s.
