Vintage Yellow Gold Filled Karen Lynne Scarab Bracelet-
The scarab beetle gained prominence in ancient Egypt as a symbol of eternal life, protection, vitality, and fertility. Their likeness has been found in jewelry since antiquity. Scarabs have been used in various forms. Actual beetles were incorporated into jewelry during the Victorian era, for instance. Favrile glass scarabs were used in jewelry designed by Louis Comfort Tiffany in the early 1900s.

After King Tut’s tomb was opened in 1923, artisans made a variety of jewelry based on Egyptian motifs. Art Deco jewelry sometimes incorporated scarabs. Scarab stones adorning Egyptian Revival jewelry were made from plastics like celluloid, glass, and ceramics. Jewelers like Cartier incorporated actual Egyptian artifacts shaped like scarabs into high-end jewelry as well. Other scarab pieces of historical significance are held in museums the world over.

Although the use of scarab-shaped stones never really stopped, another Egyptian jewelry revival took place in the mid-1970s when King Tut’s treasures toured the world. Miriam Haskell and Hattie Carnegie are among vintage scarab pieces treasured by costume jewelry collectors. These stones have been seen time and again in fashion jewelry designs since then.
