This pendant has a great look with it's carved carnelian stone and scroll worked frame. This piece would look great layered with other vintage finds. Intaglio is a term used to describe the art of carving, engraving, or impressing a face or scene into a piece of stone or glass. Small intaglios have been used in jewelry making for centuries by many different cultures. They are found both in fine and costume jewelry. Unlike cameos, which are carved in relief so that an image protrudes, intaglios are engraved or impressed, so a scene or figure is hollowed out in the stone or glass.
