Vintage Camco Pocket Knife With Lone Ranger Motif for Rail City Museum, Sandy Pond NY -
The CAMCO brand was introduced in 1948. Most of the knives were made in the Camillus factory by the same workers that made Camillus and other brands of knives. CAMCO knives were a lower priced line and many were sold as giveaway's, souvenir or advertising knives. The handles were sometimes hot stamped with a company name or logo. Many were stamped with a popular tourist spots location, like "Souvenir of Niagara Falls".
CAMCO knives also included many of the character knives like "The Lone Ranger", "Daniel Boone" and "Dick Tracey". A space ship shaped knife with a whistle was introduced in the early 1950's. A round "Charm Knife" that had a key ring and a company's advertisement under a transparent plastic cover was an advertising knife offered in the 1950's.
