Vintage Silver Toned Rhinestone Floral Designed Hair Pin

$50.00
Vintage Silver Toned Rhinestone Floral Designed Hair Pin-
This vintage hair pin is true vintage and would make a lovely accessory for any special occasion. The top of the pin has a floral design to it with open work and rhinestones to add sparkle. I can envision this intertwined in a hair design to add that extra touch.
Costume jewelry was all the rage in the “Roaring Twenties” with bold geometric designs and dramatically colored rhinestones. Rhinestones remained popular even during the Great Depression. They represented an affordable “treat” and could perk up an old outfit. By the 1950s, young women wanted casual, flirty, fun jewelry. Some of the items were made completely from rhinestones.
Hair pins, which are often considered to be the direct ancestors of bobby pins, have been around since ancient times. In Central Africa, hair pins were often made from bone, ivory, or wood. In Ancient Rome, hair pins were long and hollow; perfume (or sometimes even poison!) could be stored inside them. In 1600s France, both men and women wore hair pins. They were either long and straight or U-shaped and used to keep wigs neatly in place. At the time, they were usually called “bobbing pins.” During the Victorian era, women used hair pins to hold their hair back in order to appear proper by the standards of the time.

-Measures 5 1/4 " long
-Set with rhinestones
-Top of hair pin measures 1 1/8 " in diameter
-Good vintage condition
