Larimar is a scarce gem-quality blue variety of the mineral Pectolite. While Pectolite can be found in various locations worldwide, Larimar is unique to the Dominican Republic. This exclusive origin gives it a special allure; nowhere else on Earth produces Larimar. The name "Larimar" is a poetic tribute to both personal affection and the sea. The stone was named by a local Dominican artisan, Miguel Mendez, who combined "Lari," after his daughter Larissa, and "mar," the Spanish word for "sea". Mendez was one of the first to work with this gem, and its meaningful name reflects not only Larimar's natural beauty but also its deep connection to Dominican culture and heritage. The name itself feels like an ode to the stone's birthplace, evoking the romance and allure of the Caribbean, where the azure waves meet the golden sands.
